Beauty sleep – it’s real

Beauty sleep – it’s real

To optimize your daily beauty routine you need to start with the basics. You can have the more luxurious moisturizer in the world, but it till not help you if you don’t have the basics elements in place, such as sleep.

Sufficient beauty sleep is one key for glowing skin and one of the best anti aging remedies there is.  If you lack sleep your body produces cortisol (stress hormone) which breaks down collagen in you skin, which eventually will show as wrinkles & sagging. More importantly lack of sleep deteriorates you cognitive abilities – in other words it makes you stupid.

If you are stressed (who isn’t?) there’s a high chance that your sleep is suffering.

I wrote a post a few years ago on what you can do to improve your sleep, so there is no need to repeat myself. But what do you do if you wake in the middle of the night? How do you go back to your beauty sleep? Here are a few simple tips:

How to fall back in your beauty sleep

  • Don’t look at the time. If you look at the time chances are that you will become stressed about how little time there is left to sleep.
  • Avoid staying awake in your bed. If you can’t fall asleep, get up and do something soothing (No screens!). Read a book, write or knit (if that’s your thing). If you stay in your bed worrying about lack of sleep you may be caught up in a vicious cycle every time you lay in bed your body is reminded that it is difficult to fall asleep, which will make it hard to wind down.
  • If you had a bad nights sleep, avoid a long nap during the day. Long naps can affect your sleeping pattern and make it difficult to sleep during the night.

Sleep well!
