Hyaluronic acid an ingredient we love

Personalised skin care and science of skin care hyaluronic acid

We hosted a wonderful coffee morning last week together with Kensington Mums. The topic of discussion was how to decode an INCI list and science of skin care 101. One ingredient that was mentioned time and time again during the session was hyaluronic acid. So I though I would share some information about this superb ingredient.

Hyaluronic acid exists naturally in our body of which 50% of it is found in our skin. It is a very large molecule (technically speaking it is a type of sugar) that plumps and hydrates your skin.

It is a power magnet for moisture and can absorbs 1000 its own weight in water and is one of the most efficient NMF there is. If you have dry skin this is an ingredient for you. Dry skin needs both oil and moisture to keep soft (check out our post on winter skin to learn more). The additional moisture plumps the skin and reduces the appearance of fine line and wrinkles. So it is and ideal ingredient if you want to give you skin youth boost. As an extra “bonus” a high presence of hyaluronic simplifies the transportation of other nutrients in the skin and it plays a key role in your skin’s healing process.

Our blend “My Night” contains hyaluronic acid, and we are also developing a hydrating serum in which hyaluronic acid is a key ingredient. So keep an eye out for that one.
